Your Nutrition Habits Are Allowed To Ebb and Flow
I hear some version of the same thing: "I was doing so well, and now everything's falling apart."
If that's you right now, life might feel that way, but your life changed, so your habits changed. That's not failure. That's how habits are supposed to work.
Instead of asking, "Why can't I stick to my plan," try asking, "What does my plan need to become right now?" This isn't about lowering your standards. It's about matching your plan to your current season of life. A few questions worth sitting with:
Is a vacation coming up?
Are you starting school this fall?
Are you traveling to care for a loved one?
Is work suddenly demanding way more of you?
Are the holidays coming up?
Each of these changes what's realistic — and that's fine. Plans should be flexible.
Give yourself grace for the season you're in, while still being intentional about how you move through it. When things shift, don't start by asking "how do I eat perfectly balanced meals again." Start with something much simpler: meal structure.
Can you still eat roughly every 3 to 6 hours? If not, does lunch need to move earlier or later than usual? Does a snack need to get scheduled in like an appointment, because otherwise it just won't happen?
From there, get honest about capacity:
Do you have time to cook, or is it a buy-out season?
If you're cooking, are we talking real 30-minute meals, or is a no-cook sandwich more realistic?
If you're buying food, what's actually around you? Fast food, grocery store, bodegas?
Can you pack meals and snacks to bring with you, or do you need to stash something at work or school instead?
Sometimes the most honest goal for a hard season isn't "balanced meals." It's "regular, timed nourishment" — just making sure food happens on a rhythm your body can count on — while sleep, not macros, becomes the priority.
Nutrition isn't a straight line. It moves with vacations, semesters, caregiving, deadlines, and everything else life gives out. The goal was never to etch one plan in stone and never deviate. It's to keep noticing what season you're in and adjusting the plan to match.
