Billing & Insurance Coverage

Verifying Nutrition Services Coverage

If you’d like to check your insurance benefits before reaching out, feel free to use the sample script provided to call your insurance provider directly.

Alternatively, I can have my billing specialist verify your coverage for you. To do so, please complete the required insurance information form. Note that this process may take up to 5 business days. As this service incurs a cost on my end, I kindly ask that you only request verification if you’re seriously considering working together.

I work with a professional billing company to ensure that all claims are submitted accurately and to help address any issues that may come up during the insurance process.

1199SEIU

  • Greater New York Benefit Fund

  • National Benefit Fund

  • National Benefit Fund for Home Care Employees – Plan A & B

Common Coverage Scenarios

1199SEIU:

  • Solid coverage for nutrition services.

Cigna:

  • Often covers up to 3 visits, with the potential for more if there is a medical diagnosis such as PCOS, diabetes, high cholesterol, or a BMI-related condition.

Note: While insurance may require BMI as a qualifier, I do not use BMI as a primary health indicator and recognize the limitations and potential harm in focusing solely on BMI or weight.

Aetna:

  • Generally good coverage but often involves copays and deductibles.

  • Can be the most challenging to verify coverage with.

  • Coverage examples:

    • Up to 10 visits for “Healthy Diet Counseling”

    • Up to 26 visits for “Obesity Counseling”

MetroPlus:

  • Usually provides solid coverage for nutrition services.

Out-of-Network Coverage

If I am not in-network with your insurance, I can provide a superbill upon request. Some out-of-network plans (e.g., UHC and Emblem) may still reimburse for nutrition services, depending on your benefits.
